Advancing Access to HIV Counseling and Testing Through Use of Non-Patient Specific Standing Orders
The New York State (NYS) Department of Health and the NYS State Education Department have released a Memorandum entitled "Best Practices in Providing HIV Testing" that explains new ways of making HIV testing available through nursing staff by use of non-patient specific standing orders, pursuant to Chapter 429 of the Laws of 2005. Patients may be offered HIV testing, including rapid testing, by registered professional nurses under non-patient specific standing orders.
