APPENDIX XIII:    GENETIC TESTING LABORATORIES APPROVED TO PROVIDE DNA-BASED ANALYSIS FOR GENETIC/CANCER PREDISPOSITION TESTING FOR SPECIMENS ORIGINATING IN NYS

Disease: Hereditary Breast Cancer

Genes: BRCA1 and BRCA2

Clinical laboratory testing of New York State residents must be performed by appropriately licensed laboratories. The current status of a laboratory's licensure should be verified with the New York State Department of Health, Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program, 518-485-5378 or the Genetic Testing Quality Assurance Program, 518-474-6796.

DNA-based testing for Genetic/Cancer Predisposition is considered by the New York State Department of Health to be an investigational procedure.

Laboratories that screen for specific mutations within the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes are recommended to perform gene sequence analysis whenever negative test results are obtained for a patient.
