Minimum Qualifications RS1: Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, genetics or related natural sciences field and two years of professional research/clinical experience in that field in an appropriate laboratory, OR a master's degree in biology, chemistry, genetics or related natural sciences field and one year of professional research/clinical experience as above. RS2: Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, genetics or related natural sciences field and three years of professional research/clinical experience in that field in an appropriate laboratory, OR a master's degree in biology, chemistry, genetics or related natural sciences field and two years of professional research/clinical experience as above, OR a Doctorate degree in biology, chemistry, genetics or related natural sciences degree.
Preferred Qualifications A clinical laboratory background using modern immunoassay instruments and some experience with mass spectrometry and/or molecular techniques preferred. Complex data analysis skills preferred.
Responsibilities The Research Scientist 1 (RS1) will conduct independent testing and method development/validation in the Newborn Screening Program, including immunoassay development, mass spectrometry applications, addition of new conditions to the screening panel, and other molecular testing under the supervision of a higher level Research Scientist. The Research Scientist 2 (RS2) will perform all of the duties listed above for the RS1 level, and will also be expected to supervise laboratory staff.
Conditions of Employment Permanent, full-time, non-competitive. Occasional weekend work required. Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved, the candidate accepting appointment may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment, and undergo health evaluations and receive specific immunizations. The selected candidate will be appointed to the level determined to be most appropriate for the candidate's education and experience.
