|Minimum Qualifications||NYS employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service as a Supervising Hearing Officer (G27); OR a NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service as a Hearing Officer (G25) and eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law; OR one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service in a title at SG-25 or above and eligible for transfer under Sections 70.4 or 52.6 of the Civil Service Law. (Candidates requesting consideration for transfer under Section 70.4 or 52.6 of the Civil Service Law must also be a graduate of an accredited law school with a LLB or JD degree, and may also need to meet additional conditions to qualify for consideration.)|
|Preferred Qualifications||Admission to the New York State Bar and a member in good standing with four (4) years of post-Bar legal experience in trial of issues in courts of records or trial of adversarial proceedings, quasi-judicial in nature, before a government agency. The preferred candidate will have experience working as counsel for commercial insurance and/or public health insurance programs and/or with a legal services organization specializing in health law as well as experience supervising attorneys.|
|Responsibilities||Working as Appeals Coordinator for the New York State of Health the incumbents of these positions will be responsible for managing the appeals processes for the Individual and SHOP Exchange. The incumbents will supervise staff adjudicating appeals and provide assistance to customer support staff handling complex complaints. The incumbents will ensure the availability of timely appeals to individuals, employers, employees and health plans.|
|Conditions of Employment||Full time, permanent/permanent-contingent appointment. Travel required - some of which could include overnight stay.|
