|Minimum Qualifications||Bachelor's degree in public health, epidemiology, statistics, mathematics, social sciences, engineering or a related field and three years of professional research experience in that field; OR a Master's degree in one of the above fields and two years of professional research experience; OR a doctorate in one of the above fields.|
|Preferred Qualifications||Proficient in the use of SAS, Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point. Experience with SQL is preferred. Experience with extracting, sorting and merging of health care datasets for the application of higher order analysis. Preparation of statistical reports for public presentation. Excellent communication and organizational skills.|
|Responsibilities||The Research Scientist 2 will function as a researcher in the Office of Quality and Patient Safety (OQPS), Bureau of Health Informatics. This position will lead and contribute to research projects and statistical applications that promote the objectives of OQPS and the Department. The RS2 will provide research and statistical support in the development, manipulation and analysis of service level data; collaborate with other inter-departmental staff to implement high quality, detailed statistical data release on Health Data NY along with data simulations and interpretation of results with stakeholder involvement; assist in the development and implementation of a SPARCS research agenda; perform literature reviews, research and statistical analysis for identification and measurement of potentially preventable and adverse institutional and patient safety events; assist with data analytics related to data robustness and quality; perform multivariate statistical modeling using claim level datasets such as SPARCS to create statistical reports to inform internal and external stakeholder groups; collaborate with other OQPS research scientist staff as needed on all phases of research: literature review, applied statistical methods, requisite data reports of findings, correspondence and public presentations; participate in grant writing activities to bring external funding opportunities into the department; participate in conference calls, face-to-face meetings, etc.; and contribute to formulating healthcare policy recommendations based on applied research findings, and submit manuscripts for peer review publication.|
