The New York State Department of Health directly employs over 5,000 people and more opportunities exist through Health Research Incorporated (HRI), an independent 501 (c)3 corporation established to seek and obtain grant money for the benefit of the Department. While most positions are located in Albany, many are located in regional and district offices throughout the state. The Department also directs and oversees patient care and research at five health care facilities:
