New York State Department of Health has awarded $19.8 million to support programs that will advance its efforts to end the AIDS epidemic in the State
The New York State Department of Health has awarded $19.8 million to support programs that will advance its efforts to end the AIDS epidemic in the State. Funds will be used by providers to furnish pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) services, prevention, linkage and retention in HIV care for adolescents/young adults, and family-centered care.
Funds will support a variety of initiatives that will furnish the following services:
- HIV, STD, and HCV prevention and related services to young gay men/young men who have sex with men, focusing on communities of color, and enhanced access to HIV, STD, and HCV prevention and related services for young people through the use of youth health advocates. Many of these awards were made late last year. New Ending the Epidemic funding will support additional awards to expand the initiatives.
- Access to PrEP services in primary care settings for persons at high risk of contracting HIV.
- Family-focused health care for HIV-positive women with dependent children and pregnant women.
- Comprehensive HIV services for adolescents/young adults through HIV specialized care centers.
- Low-threshold clinical services targeted to high-risk youth through youth access programs.
