State Health Department Update on Possible Cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)
No New Cases reported today in New York State
ALBANY, NY, May 13, 2003 – There have been no new cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) reported in New York State according to the latest report issued today by the New York State Department of Health. A total of 47 possible cases of SARS have been reported in New York State since the disease was first discovered in Asia. Twenty-six of the cases are in counties outside of New York City and the remaining 21 are in New York City.
There continues to be no serious life-threatening illnesses among these 47 possible cases and there have been no secondary cases of SARS spread to household members or among health care workers. Only one patient is currently hospitalized, while all others have recovered or are recovering, among the 26 cases reported outside of New York City.
