Over Three Million Hits on State Health Department's Website for Physician Profiles this Year

Albany, June 16, 2005 - New York State Health Commissioner Antonia C. Novello, M.D., M.P.H., Dr.P.H., today announced that the State Health Department's website on physician profiles has experienced an unprecedented volume, with more than three million hits this year.

"There is a wealth of information on the State Health Department's website and we are pleased that citizens are utilizing it to obtain information about physicians," Dr. Novello said. "Know who your physician is. Before choosing a primary care physician or specialist for care, or when seeking a second opinion regarding a medical condition, review the profiles on our website before making a decision."

This website builds on Governor George E. Pataki's initiatives to protect the public and to improve access to quality health care. The Governor signed the New York Patient Health Information and Quality Improvement Act of 2000, which led to the creation of the New York State Physician Profile website.
