Dr. Daines Announces Sheila Kee, Associate Commissioner, to Head Department's Western Region
ALBANY, NY, July 09, 2007 – State Health Commissioner Richard F. Daines, M.D., announced that Sheila K. Kee has been appointed Associate Commissioner of the Department's Western Region and is working closely with county health departments, local health care delivery agencies and the Department's other regional offices throughout New York.
"Sheila has already become an important member of my team and the Department of Health's efforts to improve the accountability and the delivery of health care to all New Yorkers," said Dr. Daines. "Sheila Kee brings a unique knowledge of how both the health care industry and government operate."
The Western Region of the State Health Department services 17 counties in upstate New York and six American Indian Reservations. In addition to providing public health services, the Western Region also oversees the surveillance and regulatory compliance of all hospitals, long term care facilities, ambulatory clinics and physicians within the region.
Most recently, Kee served as Chief Executive Officer at Sheehan Memorial Hospital in Buffalo. Previously, she held the position of Chief Executive Officer at Community Health Care Association of New York State, where she directed the statewide operations of 43 federally qualified community health centers. In 2000, Kee became the Chief Executive Officer of the Erie County Medical Center (ECMC). She directed ECMC's $287.5 million budget and approximately 3,000 employees.
Kee has been active in numerous professional and civic organizations, including service as a member of the board of directors for the Western New York Business Coalition of Health Care.
Kee earned her master's degree in public policy at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
She lives in Amherst.
