State Health Department Opens Hotline On Hepatitis A to Assist Erie County Health Department

ALBANY, N.Y. (Feb. 8, 2008) -- State Health Commissioner Richard F. Daines, M.D., issued the following statement in response to a case of hepatitis A identified in a produce handler at a Wegman's supermarket in Williamsville, Erie County:

"The New York State Department of Health is providing support and resources to the Erie County Department of Health, which is leading the response to this case. Beginning after 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, concerned members of the public may call a state toll-free hotline for information on whether they should obtain the hepatitis A preventive treatment and where they can get the treatment at no cost. The hotline is 1-800-808-1987."
