ALBANY (Sept. 23) – Nearly 10,000 children in the Capital District lack health insurance, restricting their access to regular preventive screenings and other health care needed to help them grow up healthy.
As a result of legislation approved by Governor David A. Paterson and the State Legislature, effective this month children in families with annual incomes up to $70,000 for a family of three ($84,000 for family of four) are eligible to obtain subsidized coverage under New York's Child Health Plus insurance program. (See attached Fact Sheet).
On Saturday, September 27, from noon to 7 p.m., families in the capital region can get free assistance enrolling their children in Child Health Plus at four YMCA locations:
- North Albany YMCA, 616 North Pearl Street, Albany
- Albany YMCA, 274 Washington Avenue, Albany
- Kids Improvement District, 2 Lark Street, Albany
- Troy Family YMCA, 2500 21st Street, Troy
Families visiting the YMCAs for these events will be given free admission. Professionals will be on hand to help parents apply for health insurance and to answer questions regarding both the Child Health Plus and Medicaid programs.
