Media Advisory: State Health Commissioner to Visit Putnam County for WIC Appreciation Day
On Friday, June 4, at 11:30 a.m., State Health Commissioner Richard F. Daines, M.D., will join Putnam County Health Commissioner Sherlita Amler, M.D., and WIC clients and their families to celebrate WIC Appreciation Day at Markel Park, 531 North Main Street, in Brewster.
Dr. Daines will meet with WIC clients and discuss the importance of eating nutritious foods, including fruits and vegetables, to maintain a healthy weight and prevent obesity. Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is a federally funded food program that promotes good nutrition and healthy weight gain for low-income pregnant, post partum or breastfeeding women, as well as infants and children up to the age of 5. WIC serves more than 500,000 women and preschool children annually in New York State, including more than 1,000 in Putnam County.
