State Health Department to Host Forum on Improving Capital Access for Health Care Providers in New York State

State, National Experts to Discuss Current Environment, Regulations and Innovative Strategies

Albany, N.Y. (September 27, 2012) – On Tuesday, October 2, 2012, State Health Commissioner Nirav R. Shah, M.D., M.P.H., will host a forum featuring state and national experts in the fields of health care and finance who will share their expertise and ideas for "Improving Capital Access for Health Care Providers in New York State." The forum will be held at the CUNY Graduate Center, Proshansky Auditorium, 365 Fifth Avenue at 34 Street in Manhattan from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. It will also be webcast at http://www.health.ny.gov/events/webcasts/

"Our health care system will be greatly impacted by health care reform and providers will be facing an increased demand for services," Commissioner Shah said. "This forum will include discussions on key topics with experts who have successfully developed and implemented innovative solutions to leverage capital for health care systems. Our goal is to tap into the knowledge and expertise of leaders who have developed innovative solutions to leverage capital for health care system as we explore what strategies will work in New York to ensure health care providers have access to the capital they need to provide high quality services."

Following opening remarks from Commissioner Shah at 9:30 a.m., the forum will include two sessions:

  • 9:45 a.m. – noon: "Capital Access for New York Hospitals: What is the Outlook Today and for the Future?"; and
  • 12:30 p.m. – 4 p.m.: "Meeting the Future: Models and Opportunities for Accessing Private Capital."

Closing remarks and a summary of the forum will conclude the day's events at 4 p.m.

Panelists will share ideas and insight and also discuss successful efforts to leverage capital in other regions of the U.S., including Boston and Detroit.
