Public Health Week 2015
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of National Public Health Week, Acting State Health Commissioner, Dr. Howard Zucker, will lead a tour of organizations throughout the state that are working on community-wide initiatives that address one of the most serious health crises facing the nation: obesity.
Obesity is currently the second leading preventable cause of death and may soon overtake tobacco as the leading cause of death. To combat this epidemic, the Department of Health has committed to providing $6.7 million annually to local agencies throughout the state that will promote healthy behaviors, and access to healthy and affordable foods.
