  Reduce sodium intake
  1. Recruit more schools to enroll in the NYSDOH grant-funded Fit Kids school-based obesity prevention program to promote wellness policies that promote healthy nutrition at schools. Approximately 60 Westchester County schools have been recruited to date.
  2. Promote school participation in annual No Junk Food Week in March.
  3. Promote sodium reduction and healthy nutrition through health education provided at schools, health fairs, cultural festivals, community events and nontraditional health settings (e.g., housing authority buildings, hair salons, faith-based organizations) by the Chronic Disease Prevention

  4. Promote sodium reduction and healthy nutrition to WIC clients through nutrition education and food demonstrations in the WIC waiting rooms.
  5. Collaborate with the Department of Senior Programs and Services to promote sodium reduction and healthy nutrition through annual wellness activities.
  6. Provide the general public with education and information to promote sodium reduction and healthy nutrition through the Westchester County Health Department webpage.
  7. Undertake a community asset assessment that would locate or identify public options available for healthy food at the community level.
  8. Coordinate efforts to address the Prevention Agenda priorities with all 16 hospitals in Westchester County.
  9. Direct the Healthy Communities Capacity Building Initiative grant to build infrastructure in the community for chronic disease prevention.

  4. Promote sodium reduction and healthy nutrition to Westchester County Health Department WIC clients through nutrition education and food demonstrations in the WIC waiting room.
  5. Promote sodium reduction and health nutrition among youth through the TeenAWARE program at community centers, residential facilities and in other venues where youth congregate.
  6. Collaborate with the Department of Senior Programs and Services to promote sodium reduction and healthy nutrition through annual wellness activities.
  7. Provide the general public with education and information to promote sodium reduction and healthy nutrition through the WCDH webpage.
  8. Collaborate with local community organizations to raise awareness and to imlement strategies for improving nutrition and increasing physical activity in the county.
  9. Promote increased physical activity to Westchester County Health Department’s WIC clients through FiT WIC program and incentive items.
  10. Promote increased physical activity among youth throught the TeenAWARE program.
  11. Collaborate with the Department of Senior Programs and Services to promote increased physical activity through annual wellness activities.
  12. Coordinate the Prevention Collaborative meeting with all 16 local hospitals in Westchester County.
