Deborah Sermet

As a public health educator, Deborah Sermet has become an expert on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) in Suffolk County. The reportable cases of STIs in the county are among the highest in the nation. In 2007, Ms. Sermet made a total of 599 STI presentations reaching 19,896 participants. The presentations were extended to public, private and alternative schools, teacher and staff trainings, and mental health facilities. Ms. Sermet tailors each presentation to include the latest information to ensure that they effectively reach her audience, their needs and level of understanding. In addition to this rigorous schedule, she still has time to conduct the New York State defensive driving curriculum required for county employees.
