The Office of Community Sanitation within the Nassau County Department of Health, Division of Environmental Health consists of six dedicated professionals who perform a vital public health service. This Office is responsible for enforcement of the Nassau County Public Health Ordinance as it applies to putrescible waste, rodent harborage, heating and utility requirements, ground feeding, pest infestations and exposure to sewage. In 2010, this office responded to and resolved over 1,200 complaints! They deal with these "glamorous" issues every day and continue to respond to the public in a professional and conscientious manner. This type of work is essential to protecting the public health yet is rarely recognized or acknowledged.
