Paramedic Program Accreditation

For all new Paramedic Program Sponsorship Applications received on or after April 1, 1999 the sponsor must meet the requirements of Part 800.20 of the State EMS Code and the Essentials and Guidelines for an Accredited Educational Program for the EMT-Paramedic published by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

Within four (4) years of initial Department of Health approval, all Paramedic Programs approved on or after April 1, 1999 must file for accreditation with CAAHEP's Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs for the EMT-Paramedic. The Paramedic Program must maintain accreditation in order to conduct courses leading to New York State Paramedic certification.

All existing Paramedic Programs, approved prior to April 1, 1999 must file for accreditation with CAAHEP's Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs for the EMT-Paramedic on or before January 1, 2003. These programs must maintain accreditation in order to conduct courses leading to New York State Paramedic certification.
