Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) Registry for Practitioners

The New York State Department of Health's Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement maintains an online Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) registry. Currently, the PMP registry, formerly referred to as the Controlled Substance Information program (CSI), allows practitioners, who hold a valid DEA registration, to review their patients' recent controlled substance prescription history at any time. This information allows practitioners to better evaluate a patient's treatment as it pertains to controlled substance prescribing. Each prescriber must have an individual Health Commerce System (HCS) account to gain access to the PMP.

Effective August 27, 2013, most prescribers will be required to consult the PMP registry when writing prescriptions for Schedule II, III, and IV controlled substances. Practitioners will be able to designate designees to check the registry on their behalf. Continue to check the BNE website for new information on this program.
