Section Eight: Chemicals
Flammable and combustible liquids are common to logging operations.
- Fuels for vehicles, machinery and chain saws:
- Must be stored, handled, transported and used according to OSHA standards.
- Must not be transported in the driver compartment or in any passenger-occupied area of a machine or vehicle.
- Can be used to start fires if the particular situation doesn't create a hazard to workers.
- Gas-powered equipment must be shut off when fueling.
- Diesel-powered equipment may be left at idle when fueling, assuming safe fueling procedures are followed.
Explosives and Blasting Agents
- Can present a hazard if stored, transported or handled improperly
- Must be stored, handled, transported or used according to OSHA standards.
- Must not be transported in the driver compartment or in any passenger-occupied area of a machine or vehicle.
- Must be handled only by a designated person, trained in the handling and use of explosives and blasting agents.
