Each hospitalization receives an ICD-9 code at discharge which indicates the primary reason for the hospitalization. The ICD-9 codes for Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) are 098.10, 098.16, 098.17, 098.30, 098.36-098.37, 098.39, 098.86, 614.0-614.5, 614.7- 614.9, 615.0, 615.4, 615.9.
