The code which best describes the ethnic origin of the patient.
Codes and Values:- "1" = Spanish/Hispanic Origin
"2" = Not of Spanish/Hispanic Origin
"9" = Unknown
- Must have been a valid entry.
The code is the same as was used on the DDAs since 1987. For discharges prior to 1987, this field was derived from the race field as follows:
