Definition:
All significant procedures other than the Principal Procedure Code (Data Element 52) are reported here, as space allows. They are reported in order of significance, starting with the most significant.
A significant procedure was one that was surgical in nature, carried a procedural risk, carried an anesthetic risk, or required specialized training. Surgery included incision, excision, amputation, introduction, endoscopy, repair, destruction, suture, and manipulation.
Codes and Values:- Must have been left justified and entered exactly as shown in the ICD-9-CM coding
reference, excluding the decimal point, and space filled.
- If this field was not applicable, it contains blanks.
- If Other Procedure Code 1-14 was entered, the corresponding Other Procedure Date 1-14
(Data Element 55) must have
also been reported.
