The Emergency Department Indicator is set based on the ancillary revenue codes. If the record contained an Emergency Department ancillary revenue code of 045X the indicator will be set to "E" for Emergency Department only, "A" for Ambulatory Surgery from Emergency Department or blank for Ambulatory Surgery only.
