Definition:
The ending date of the billing period.
For SPARCS submissions, the date when the patient was discharged from a hospital, ambulatory surgery service facility, or emergency department or death occurred.
Codes and Values:
- CCYYMMDD = Century Year Month Day
- Must be a valid date in accordance with the Date Edit Validation Table in Appendix A.
Edit Applications:
- Must be on or after the
Statement Covers Period - From Date.
- Must be on or after the
Admission Date/Start of Care.
- Must be on or before the
Processing Date.
- Must not be prior to
Patient Birth Date.
- Must be on or after the opening date, and on or before the closing date, of an
Article 28 facility, a hospital-based ambulatory surgery service, or a free-standing
ambulatory surgery center as specified in the SPARCS Hospital Profile Reference File
maintained by the SPARCS Administrative Unit.
- Ambulatory Surgery Only: Must be within three (3) days of
Admission Date/Start of Care.
NOTE: The three days takes into consideration any observation time that would be allowable for Medicare payment of an ambulatory surgery service. For example, an admission on May 6 would require a discharge on or before May 9. - Emergency Department Only: Must be within four (4) days of
Admission Date/Start of Care.
NOTE: The four days takes into consideration the observation time that would be allowable for payment of an emergency department visit. - Inpatient Only: If the Neonate Birthweight is reported as less than 1500 grams, and the New York State Patient Status is reported as code "01" home, then the Length of Stay must be greater than 10 days.
