Hudson Valley Region Advice

Don't see your waterbody listed in the table?
If there is no specific advice for a particular waterbody, follow the general advice, which is to eat up to four, half pound meals a month of fish.

Effective 7/24/17: Fish Testing for Perfluorinated Chemicals (PFCs)
The New York State Departments of Health (DOH) and Environmental Conservation (DEC) are working together to collect, analyze, and evaluate fish from water bodies around the Newburgh and Hoosick Falls areas for a group of chemicals called PFCs (this includes PFOA and PFOS). Until testing is complete, DOH recommends that people who fish certain Newburgh and Hoosick Falls area waters return their catch. For a list of these waters and more information, please visit Fish Testing for Perfluorinated Chemicals (PFCs).

1 The specific health advisories for the waters listed above also apply to tributaries and connected waters if there are no dams, falls, or barriers to stop the fish from moving upstream.

2 See the Catskill Region, for waters with advice in Green and Ulster counties.

3 Effective 7/24/17: Preliminary results indicate that fish from these waters have elevated levels of perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs), compared to fish from other waters. Until testing is complete, DOH recommends that people who fish these waters return their catch.

Advisory Waters Map

The map below highlights waterbodies with specific health advice for eating fish you catch. For more detailed maps that show health advice for public access waters, click on the purple box to select a county map or click on an underlined county on the map below. These detailed maps are the first in a series that will be available over time.

The maps show advisory locations to the the best of our knowledge. Please contact HRFA@health.ny.gov if you are aware of any additional natural or man-made barriers preventing fish passage (that should or should not be included on these maps). We appreciate all feedback.
