NYS Caregiver Guide 2021

34 NYS CAREGIVER GUIDE RESPITE CARE Respite care provides a temporary break from caregiving duties to allow the caregiver to attend to their own needs, participate in community activities, meet friends, go shopping, or just take a break. This may also be needed in the event that you are unable to provide care, such as a medical emergency, surgery, or when you are traveling. Respite may be arranged through caregiver programs that operate in your county, through home care agencies or in some instances, certain residential facilities. Friends, family and volunteers may also be able to provide respite for a few hours at a time.
