MRT 8004: The Alzheimer's Disease Program and the New York State Caregiver Support Initiative

The NYS Caregiver Support Initiative is a landmark $25 million annual investment in community support and health services for people with dementia and their caregivers. The initiative is based on evidence that demonstrates that providing an array of caregiver services in the community:

  • Helps avoid unnecessary hospitalizations and emergency room visits
  • Delays nursing home placement
  • Improves caregiver burden and mental health outcomes

Through this initiative, comprehensive medical services for the diagnosis of Alzheimer´s Disease and other Dementias (AD/D) and the training of physicians and other healthcare professionals about AD/D are also provided.
