NY State of Health Partners with YMCAs Statewide to Help Families Access Affordable Health Coverage

YMCA's Healthy Kids Day Offers Families an Opportunity to Learn About Marketplace Health Plans

ALBANY, N.Y. (April 25, 2019) - NY State of Health, the state's official health plan Marketplace, will have certified enrollment assistors at more than 30 YMCAs statewide for the annual YMCA Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 27. Healthy Kids Day is a national initiative to improve children's health and well-being. The assistors will address questions about affordable health insurance, including Child Health Plus (CHP), New York State's health insurance plan for children.

"We are excited to participate in Healthy Kids Day and share in the YMCA's mission of building healthier communities," said NY State of Health Executive Director Donna Frescatore. "By interacting directly with families, we can let parents know about all the programs the Marketplace offers, including Child Health Plus, which is low-cost or free depending on income."

CHP has been tremendously successful, serving approximately 419,000 children who may not otherwise have access to health coverage. The program is comprehensive health insurance that covers services including preventive care such as routine checkups, immunizations, doctor visits, and prescription coverage, as well as hospital care, dental and vision care, and more. More than 1,500 Ys across the country are taking part in Healthy Kids Day by holding free community events designed to inspire children to stay active physically and mentally year-round.

"The Y is committed to fostering healthier children and families through statewide initiatives," said Kyle Stewart, Executive Director of the Alliance of New York State YMCAs. "We can't think of a better opportunity for NY State of Health to educate families on affordable, quality healthcare options than at Healthy Kids Day – a day dedicated solely to promoting the health and well-being of children."

Although enrollment in a 2019 Qualified Health Plan has ended, enrollment in Child Health Plus, the Essential Plan, and Medicaid is open all year. Learn more about year-round enrollment opportunities here.
