DOH Oral Health Programs in New York State

New York State Oral Health Initiative

In 2001, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) awarded the department's Bureau of Dental Health a seven-year grant to support oral disease prevention programs. Under this initiative, the Bureau of Dental Health has been working to build linkages with the county health departments and other coalitions to improve the oral health of New Yorkers. The activities include:

  • Implementation of an oral health surveillance system
  • Development of a state oral health plan
  • Support for program management
  • Development of a statewide oral health coalition
  • Partnerships to promote oral health initiatives
  • Dissemination of oral health information and resources
  • Development and implementation of training programs
