Objectives

Each community's progress towards reaching these Prevention Agenda Goals and Objectives will be tracked so members can see how close each community is to meeting the goals.

  • By the year 2013, reduce the percentage of New York children who are overweight or obese so that:
    • The percent of WIC children (ages 2-4) who are obese is no more than 11.6%. Baseline: 15.5%, WIC Program data, 2005. (Healthy People 2010 Goal - twenty-five percent improvement from 2005 baseline.)
    • The percent of children ages 6-11 who are obese is no more than 5%. Baseline: unavailable. (Healthy People 2010 Goal)
    • The percent of children ages 12-19 who are obese is no more than 5%. Baseline: unavailable. (Healthy People 2010 Goal)
  • By the year 2013, reduce the percentage of adult New Yorkers who are obese to no more than 15.0%. Baseline: 22.9%, BRFSS, 2006. (Healthy People 2010 Goal)
  • By the year 2013, increase the percentage of adult New Yorkers who engage in some type of leisure time physical activity to at least 80%. Baseline: 74.0%, BRFSS, 2006. (Healthy People 2010 Goal)
  • By the year 2013, increase the percent of adult New Yorkers who have consumed fruits and vegetables five or more times per day to at least 33.0%. Baseline: 26.0%, BRFSS, 2005. (HP2010 Goal)
  • By the year 2013, increase the percentage of New York mothers breastfeeding for at least the first 6 months of their babies life to at least 50%. Baseline: 39.5% of WIC mothers, WIC Program data, 2005. (Healthy People 2010 Goal)
