Director - Children with Special Health Care Needs

Job Description

  • Directs, coordinates, and administers a variety of programs for children with special needs
  • Plans programs and projects, and evaluates the programs' quality, quantity, cost effectiveness and adherence to Federal, State and/or local laws and regulations.
  • Maintains necessary controls over the budget and the guidelines established for the program.
  • The work is performed under the general direction of the Local Public Health Director / Commissioner.
  • Supervises professional, technical and clerical staff.
  • Demonstrates
    • thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, administration and coordination of physically handicapped children related programs;
    • good knowledge of LHD policies and objectives, budgeting and fiscal procedures and personnel management;
    • ability to establish and maintain good working relations with patients and their families, various professional groups and public and private organizations;
    • ability to maintain records and prepare reports.


Graduation from high school or possession of a New York State equivalency diploma:

AND Either

1.Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered approved college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in health, human services, social work, or health related field and four (4) years of experience in a health related program, two (2) years of which must have been in program development and supervision;


2.Eight (8) years of experience as described in (1) above.
