The Communicable Disease Investigation Team at the Westchester County Department of Health (WCDH) are vital members of the Public Health team committed to improving the health of the public. As with many LHD, WCDH struggles to complete investigations in a timely manner, while dealing with shrinking resources, increasing caseloads and increasing complexity of investigations. The Communicable Disease Investigation Team rose to this challenge by readily working together to plan, design and execute the transition from a paper based system of investigations to an electronic system while streamlining procedures. This resulted in improved timeliness and effectiveness of investigations; improved performance and productivity. Recently the team presented a proposal to the department to address the issue of a long standing concern regarding the timely investigations of large volumes of Hepatitis C reports. This proposal was accepted and implemented resulting in palpable improvements in the timeliness and completion of investigations.
