Christy Richards, RN, BSN, Public Health Nurse - Chronic Disease Coordinator, Ontario County Public Health

Christy Richards began her career with Ontario County in December of 2008. As Chronic Disease Coordinator, Christy works with many community partners to reduce the burden of chronic diseases in the county. Christy is also co-facilitator of the "Finger Lakes Breastfeeding Partnership". Through her hard work and dedication, the partnership has successfully opened the first "Baby Café" in the Finger Lakes region. The partnership has also increased the number of Certified Lactation Counselors in the region by 32 and successfully assisted seven Ontario County Daycare centers and eight Home Daycares in becoming certified as "Baby Friendly". Her leadership in the collaborative has resulted in an increased breastfeeding rate at time of hospital discharge by 6%, and has increased compliance with breastfeeding laws for employers. She is an active member of the county's worksite wellness team and has implemented the National Diabetes Prevention Program. She just completed her public health certificate and is working towards her MPH.
