The Workforce Development Team is a cross county collaborative committee with members from Genesee and Orleans County that have been working towards developing a comprehensive workforce development plan to be used in both counties. This committee was formed as part of a strategic plan and will meet requirements of Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) accreditation. The primary goal was to look at engagement of employees over the course of their time with the health department. The three primary components of the plan are hiring, training and succession planning. The first component focuses on hiring and getting employees up to speed. The second focuses on strategically investing in the workforce to gain competency, retention and depth. The third component focuses on how to succession plan for employees leaving and minimizing historical knowledge loss. This is important, as a strong, trained, and vibrant workforce is essential for a high performing public health agency.
