Medical Reserve Corps of Dutchess County Volunteers

The volunteers of the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) of Dutchess County donated over 2,000 hours of volunteer service in 2017. Sixty-eight of their activities strengthened public health and twenty-eight served vulnerable populations. MRC volunteers train at least twice a month on a variety of health-related topics. MRC volunteers help staff the Medical Tent and seven First Aid Stations located along the Walkway Marathon route. They host health and preparedness information tables and First Aid Stations at a variety of health fairs, community events and twelve monthly senior picnics where they distribute Department of Behavioral and Community Health brochures, helpline bracelets, hand sanitizers, and more. In addition to their regular activities, forty-seven MRC volunteers staffed a full-scale vaccination Point of Dispensing (POD) exercise. Seventeen MRC volunteers put together 5,000 tick removal and documentation kits in about four hours. Dutchess County is fortunate to have such a dedicated group of volunteers working to support the efforts of the Department of Behavioral and Community Health.
