The Ulster County Department of Health and Mental Health’s COVID-19 response team is comprised of public health nurses, registered nurses, clerical staff, data team, and call center representatives from the Recovery Service Center (RSC). The county, like so many others, has taken a proactive stance since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Staff have been working diligently and tirelessly since the onset of the pandemic to ensure the safety and health of all Ulster County residents. Staff have been working 7 days per week to ensure that all COVID-19 positive cases are contacted and isolated, and that their close contacts are quarantined to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community. Nurses have also provided PPE and COVID-19 testing training to school district nurses to ensure that they are prepared to test students and staff. In addition, nursing staff have also provided COVID-19 testing for persons needing testing, including homebound patients, who are unable to get testing from their primary health care provider. The RSC has managed thousands of calls and has recently experienced an uptick in calls regarding the COVID-19 vaccination.
