Community Cancer Prevention in Action

Description: These grantees have worked to implement strategies to: 1) decrease exposure to ultraviolet radiation to reduce the risk of skin cancer among priority populations (such as youth, minors, employees in outdoor occupational settings, etc.) through implementation of evidence based, recommended interventions; and 2) increase cancer screening rates for colorectal, breast and cervical cancers through worksite (employer) paid time off policies. Additionally, contractors conduct education to promote other key cancer prevention, early detection, and control priorities identified in the NYS Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan, as needed, and directed by the Department. Extending the three State-funded grantees for twelve months will align the contract period end date with the other three, non-State funded grantees, ensuring all are eligible to apply for the next competitive Request for Applications, ensuring continued provision and promotion of evidence-based cancer prevention and early detection interventions for high burden cancers in New York communities, and ensuring continued program implementation.

Due to the specific circumstances of this procurement and the unique qualifications of the selected firm/entity, a competitive procurement was not feasible in this instance.
