In 2019 Orange County experienced a public health issue requiring an "all hands-on deck" approach for a Vaccine Preventable Disease surveillance mission. The IAP (Immunization Action Plan) Nurses took the lead, making themselves available after hours and on weekends, handling countless calls and emails. The Nursing Team assisted with monitoring, surveillance, education, outreach, and specimen pickups/drop-offs. During the summer, the Nursing Team and Environmental Health staff monitored summer camps to ensure compliance with the Orange County Health Commissioner's order requiring all campers to be vaccinated. As fall approached, the team shifted to assisting local schools in assuring students are in compliance with the State Immunization Requirements for School Entrance and Attendance. Throughout 2019, staff continued to perform their daily work duties including school, provider office, and home visits and operation of various public health clinics.
