PFOS in Drinking Water in Newburgh Area

Biomonitoring/Blood Testing

The State Health Department offered blood testing to people in the Newburgh area with concerns about their past exposures to perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) and other perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) from November 2016 through December 31, 2017. More than 3,500 people had serum samples analyzed for PFCs during this first round of blood testing. Plans for a second round of blood testing for Newburgh area residents will be announced at a later date.

Fish Testing for Perfluorinated Chemicals (PFCs)

The New York State Departments of Health (DOH) and Environmental Conservation (DEC) are working together to collect, analyze, and evaluate fish from water bodies around the Newburgh and Hoosick Falls areas for a group of chemicals called PFCs (this includes PFOA and PFOS). For more information, please visit Fish Testing for Perfluorinated Chemicals (PFCs).
