January 13, 2015 | Ending the Epidemic Task Force | On June 29, 2014 Governor Andrew M. Cuomo made an important announcement, in which he detailed a three-point plan to 'Bend the Curve' and move us closer to the end of the AIDS epidemic in New York State. The goal is to reduce the number of new HIV infections to just 750 by 2020. The three-point plan includes: (1) Identify persons with HIV and link them to care. (2) Link and retain persons diagnosed in health care to maximize viral suppression and prevent further transmission. (3) Facilitate access to Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for high risk persons to keep them HIV negative. The Task Force has been established in support of Governor Cuomo's three-point plan to decrease new HIV infections. The Task Force will provide expert advice on implementation and monitoring strategies, focusing on New York State's highly successful existing HIV prevention and care efforts. Member of the Task Force will address areas of prevention, policy, access to care, surveillance, messaging and biomedical advances via four committees: (1)Prevention, (2)Care, (3) Data, and (4)Housing and supportive services.
