Health Systems for a Tobacco-Free NY
Pursuant to New York State Finance Law § 163.10(b), The New York State Department of Health is presenting the following summary of relevant circumstances, and material and substantial reasons why a competitive procurement was not feasible. The New York State Department of Health, Center for Community Health, has made a determination to issue funding to nine organizations in the amount of $3,274,770, to continue tobacco control and prevention services in New York State.
This one-year extension will ensure there is no interruption of services while the Department develops and releases a new competitive Request for Applications (RFA) for the next five-year period (7/1/2020 – 6/30/2025). The extension will allow the Department to revise and reissue Components A and B of the original procurement to also include the emerging public health threat of electronic cigarettes in New York State. It has become increasingly apparent that health systems have an important role to address the alarming rise of electronic cigarettes. The RFA will be developed to include a scope of work that will support grantees becoming well-versed in the science of electronic cigarettes and the important role of how health systems can respond to this and any other urgent, emerging tobacco issues. The RFA is scheduled to be released in mid-August 2019 with a start date of July 1, 2020.
