Media Advisory: EMS Memorial Dedication Ceremony to be Held May 18th

Ceremony honors 3 EMS professionals who died in the line-of-duty

ALBANY, N.Y. (May 17, 2011) – The annual New York State Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Memorial Dedication Ceremony, which honors the nearly 60,000 EMS providers in the state and pays special tribute to EMS professionals who lost their lives in the line-of-duty, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at the Empire State Plaza in Albany.

This year's ceremony will honor three fallen EMS professionals: Paul A. Bazinet of Warren County, Karen A. Hand of Broome County, and LeRoy Kemp of Tioga County. Their names will be placed on the New York State Emergency Medical Services Memorial, which also contains the names of 39 other EMS professionals who died in service to others.

The ceremony will include the presentation of colors by the North Shore-LIJ Center for Emergency Medical Services Honor Guard and the FDNY Emergency Medical Services Pipes & Drum Band and Ross Zastrow, and the laying of a wreath by State Health Commissioner Nirav R. Shah, M.D., M.P.H. and Timothy Czpranski, administrator of the Monroe County Emergency Medical Services Office.
