NY State of Health Promotes Affordable Health Coverage at Farmers Markets Across the State

More Than 40 Certified Enrollment Assistors Available On-Site During Summer Months

ALBANY, N.Y. (June 27, 2019) NY State of Health, the state's official health plan Marketplace, today announced its partnership with NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets in an effort to educate shoppers at more than 20 farmers markets throughout the state about low-cost, quality health coverage. Certified Enrollment Assistors will be available at select markets to answer any questions about enrolling in a health plan through the Marketplace and to set up enrollment appointments.

"We are happy to once again make information about affordable health insurance available at farmers markets across the state, this summer" said NY State of Health Executive Director Donna Frescatore. "Through this partnership, we are able to meet consumers and employees of the agriculture industry in locations that are convenient to them, making it easy for them to find a good low-cost health plan."

State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball said,"Our farmers' markets are important community gathering places that provide an opportunity for outreach and education while connecting our farmers and growers to consumers. That makes them an ideal place to inform people not only about their options for eating healthy nutritious foods, but also about affordable healthcare coverage. We're proud to partner with NY State of Health on this initiative and support the health and well-being of all New Yorkers."

Details on which farmers market locations will have NY State of Health Assistors on site are included here.

While the 2019 Open Enrollment Period for Qualified Health Plans has ended, enrollment in the Essential Plan, Medicaid and Child Health Plus is available year-round for those who qualify, and consumers who have recently experienced a qualifying life event may be eligible to enroll in a Qualified Health Plan through a special enrollment period.

All health plans offered through NY State of Health cover preventative care, such as routine doctor visits and screenings, at no additional cost. For more information about Marketplace health plans and enrolling, visit: nystateofhealth.ny.gov
