Karen Smykowski, Executive Assistant, Genesee County Public Health Department

Every office has a key person that is essential to maintaining the functionality of the department. Karen is that person for the Genesee County Health Department. She is fondly referred to as "mom" and manages the flow of the office and is the go-to person for assistance for just about everything. Although not in the "field", Karen is often the first contact the public has and sets the tone of professionalism for the entire department. She is not afraid to tackle the unknown and is always ready to try new things. This was seen at the end of 2014 as Karen stepped up and kept the department afloat as we transitioned to a new fiscal officer. In addition to all of the standard duties, Karen also serves as the board of health secretary and excels at keeping the board informed and the meetings flowing smoothly.
