Community Calendar of Opioid Overdose Trainings

NYSDOH Issues Press Release About First New York State-Sponsored Overdose Awareness Day

  • The following press release, issued by the New York State Department of Heath, pertains to September 9, 2021's landmark Overdose Awareness Day. This event, which had over 250 attendees, provided a forum to honor the memory of those we have lost and to acknowledge the extraordinary work of people in the community focused on the health of persons who use drugs. The State's more-than-850 registered opioid overdose prevention programs and the individuals they have trained are in the forefront in saving lives, as are providers treating patients with medication for opioid use disorder.

2021 Community Calendar

Many NYSDOH Registered Opioid Overdose Prevention Programs deliver community trainings throughout New York State. Community members who participate can expect to learn, the following:

  • Signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose;
  • Steps in how to respond to an overdose and how to administer naloxone;
  • Review the NYSDOH cost-saving program Naloxone Co-payment Assistance Program (N-CAP) and identify participating pharmacies where New Yorkers can get naloxone by using their prescription coverage through their health insurance plan; and
  • The benefits of the NYS 911 Good Samaritan Law including the importance of calling emergency medical services.
Target Audience: For ALL community members - regardless of level of understanding/knowledge about opioid overdose.

Registration is the sole responsibility of the registered program offering the training.
