Carleen Pope, MPH, MS, has improved the Erie County Public Health Laboratory (ECPHL) by increasing the laboratory's customer base, streamlining processes within the Division, and securing equipment upgrades. The Division's revenue has increased nearly 60% since Carleen accepted this position. She has developed environmental testing in water systems, including lead and Cyanobacteria toxin testing. TheECPHL contains the only BSL 3 lab used for biothreat testing in the western region of NY. Carleen serves as a liaison between the ECPHL and other county agencies. She's an active member of the Association of Public Health Laboratories and the American Society of Microbiology. Through Carleen's efforts, the Erie County Public Health Laboratory has enhanced the quality of services it provides to Erie and surrounding counties, as well as private customers and the NYSDOH. Carleen's loyalty, integrity, and leadership skills make her a valued asset within the Division and the County Health Department.
