Nursing Home Administrator Licensure Program
The Department of Health is committed to protecting the health and safety of New York State's nursing home residents. To ensure that the administrators who manage the State's skilled nursing facilities have mastered a specific body of knowledge and can demonstrate the skills and abilities essential to competent practice within the profession, the Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators (BENHA) issues a license to individuals who meet specific qualifications and pass a nursing home administrator licensing examination.
The practice of nursing home administration in New York State is governed by Article 28-D of the New York State Public Health Law and 10 NYCRR, Part 96.
